James Edward Orange (1942–2008) was a towering figure in the Civil Rights Movement, known for his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and nonviolence. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Orange rose to prominence as a key lieutenant in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), where he worked tirelessly to combat systemic racism and empower disenfranchised communities. Affectionately known as "Shack Daddy" for his commanding presence and warm demeanor, James Orange played a pivotal role in historic events like the Selma-to-Montgomery marches and numerous voter registration drives across the South. His grassroots organizing and steadfast leadership were instrumental in advancing the Civil Rights Movement’s mission for equality and social justice. In 1969, James Orange founded the MLK March Committee, Inc., an organization dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through civic engagement, education, and advocacy. Under his guidance, the committee became a cornerstone for organizing annual commemorative events and mobilizing communities to uphold the principles of equality and nonviolence. Orange’s commitment extended beyond the Civil Rights Movement as he became a global advocate for labor rights, economic justice, and human dignity. His dedication to mentoring future generations of activists ensured that the fight for justice would continue beyond his lifetime. James Orange’s legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and transformative leadership. Jamida Orange (1969-2022) was a compassionate leader and dedicated advocate who made an enduring impact in her community and beyond. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  Jamida was deeply rooted in the principles of justice, equality, and service. She was a prominent figure in the MLK March Committee, where her leadership and vision carried forward the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., fostering civic engagement and community unity. Jamida was known for her unwavering commitment to social change and her ability to inspire others to action. Her work extended beyond the committee, as she was actively involved in initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized communities and promoting voter education and registration. With a heart for service and a sharp mind for organizing, Jamida was a natural leader who believed in the power of collective action. She was deeply respected for her ability to bring people together, build consensus, and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and progress. Jamida’s legacy is one of perseverance, compassion, and leadership. Her work continues to inspire those who knew her and serves as a testament to her unwavering dedication to the causes she held dear. JaClea' Orange is a dedicated professional and community leader from Atlanta, Georgia, with a passion for psychology and a commitment to creating meaningful change. She currently serves as the Chair of the MLK March Committee, where she leads initiatives to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by organizing impactful events and promoting civic engagement. A psychology major, JaClea' is pursuing her goal of becoming a forensic psychologist while also aspiring to own a salon and lounge, blending her dedication to mental health advocacy with her entrepreneurial ambitions. Her work reflects her deep belief in the power of self-expression and the importance of addressing mental health issues, particularly in underserved communities. JaClea' is known for her leadership skills, creativity, and strong sense of responsibility. In addition to her professional endeavors, she is a full-time caregiver, exemplifying her unwavering dedication to supporting her family and community. Her hobbies, including makeup and nail artistry, highlight her ability to find balance through creativity and self-care. Rooted in her Atlanta upbringing, JaClea' draws inspiration from her city’s rich cultural and historical legacy. As a visionary leader and advocate, she strives to empower others and make a lasting impact on both a personal and community level.
